PITCH BLACK

Exercise Pitch Black 2022 is the largest air combat exercise in the southern hemisphere. The biennial event is a three-week multinational large force deployment exercise and is the Royal Australian Air Force’s most significant International Engagement activity. Forces participate from a wide range of partner and allied nations with the goal to develop and enhance military relationships at all levels.

Pitch Black and similar exercises are pivotal to ensuring the Air Force remains ready to respond whenever the Australian Government requires. 

The exercise features a range of realistic, simulated threats which can be found in a modern battle-space environment and is an opportunity to test and improve our force integration, utilising one of the largest training airspace areas in the world.

The exercise hosted up to 2500 personnel and up to 100 aircraft from around the globe, including participants from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, India, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, UAE, US and UK. 2022 was also the first year in which Germany, Japan, and the Republic of Korea participated in full.

Through Exercise Pitch Black, the RAAF demonstrates the Air Force’s commitment to building professionalism and enhancing military relationships for the safe and effective conduct of air operations with regional and partner nations.

Black Diamond Group was tasked with supplying a vast array of equipment on several remote military bases around the country in order to support our clients’ involvement in this exercise. We successfully arranged the mobilisation, installation and commissioning of assets and supported our clients throughout the month-long exercise.

Black Diamond’s approach, flexibility and experience within the Defence sector allowed for a seamless and agile response to the Australian Defence Forces’ wide range of requirements.
